BLACK SMOKE IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN
The men in yellow helmets finally arrived, the flames had already fanned into large curtains of black smoke… they were coming from an automobile tire warehouse on Jacinto Canek Avenue and Sian Ka’an.
Behind a pair of white fences, the prominent gray figures could be seen for miles in the distance and in agreement with the fire they quickly began to advance in the area around this part of Solidaridad.
At the scene there was not only a group of firefighters, but also agents of the municipal police, who were in charge of cordoning off the area in order to protect it, thanks to the work of Jorge Robles Aguilar, commissioner of the Public Safety Department.
At this point it is not known what could have caused the fire. But the smoke is now part of the pollutants circulating in the environment, and it is highly toxic.
Black tires, being made of rubber, become a difficult material to destroy, and according to researchers, 28 percent of micro-plastic debris reaches the oceans. So when we see black smoke, we are witnessing the deterioration of our seas.
