Q. ROO: 10 MEASURES AGAINST COVID-19
Quintana Roo, Mexico – Yesterday, Monday, the month of May came to an end, a complicated month for the people of Quintana Roo, because unlike the other states of the republic, this one was announced as having a strong increase of covid cases. The governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín Gonzáles, together with health authorities urged the population in general, week after week, not to lower their guard.
However, the third wave has arrived, as announced by several media, infections continue to rise, medical personnel are not resting, although the occupation of hospitals remains at a regular level, cases of infection are reaching a serious level, which is the reason why deaths have not been able to cease.
Just a couple of minutes before 8 p.m., Gonzáles announced through his social media that we will need new measures to avoid further outbreaks; main avenues will have to be blocked, and even businesses will have to be closed at 11 p.m. in the northern part of the state.
Wearing a white shirt and framed in the middle between the flags of México and Quintana Roo, the governor announced 10 new measures, in order to save lives, and continue with the economic recovery of the state, the most important request of Quintana Roo’s families. Carlos Joaquín showed his concern, and then listed the measures that will be applied starting today, June 1st:
- Decrease of mobility in Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum with the closing of streets and main avenues between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
- Tough hand in public transportation, they must keep a healthy distance and not exceed the quota allowed by the orange epidemiological traffic light.
- Increase Covid testing in Cancún and Playa del Carmen.
- Closing time for businesses at 11 pm. There will be sanctions for those who do not comply with this regulation.
- Strengthen vaccination starting this week in the northern zone. Being vaccinated does not imply going out without observing the measures.

- Identification of the most highly contagious neighborhoods. Locating and signaling areas of high contagion. www.geoportal.qroo.gob.mx.
- Avoid social gatherings. Avoid crowds.
- Greater care in political campaigns. Avoid mass gatherings. Keep a healthy distance.
- Coordinated work with the municipalities. They must obey the established measures. Be strict in complying with the measures.
The governor added that the time to act is now, to abide by the measures is everyone’s task, since it will depend on it to move towards a yellow traffic light, or back to the red one.
