SIMULATION DRILLS ARE CONDUCTED IN QUINTANA ROO

As in a play, people in 752 properties in Quintana Roo stopped their daily activities for a moment and participated in the simulation of fires and other disasters, with the purpose of strengthening the reaction capabilities of the members of the National Civil Protection System and the culture of self-protection.

The staging, with much enthusiasm, began at 11:30 in the morning, the citizens participated according to the instructions given. Of the 752 properties that participated, 393 correspond to the municipality of Benito Juárez, where 5,777 people were involved; in Othón P. Blanco, 7,989; Solidaridad, 5,360; Cozumel, 2,046 people; Isla Mujeres, 1,346; Tulum, 1,324, and the rest in the rest of the state. A total of 45,174 people statewide.

“The main objective of this First National Drill, is to create awareness about the risks to which the population is exposed in public buildings, as well as to detonate a broader and informed participation of the citizenship” explained the head of the Civil Protection Coordination, Adrián Martínez Ortega, who highlighted the importance of having a commanding voice to participate in a timely manner.

In each municipality, the participants carried out common tasks typical of a dangerous fire, earthquake or any other incident, which they set up as an assumption, in order to get ready with displacements, safe exits, use of fire extinguishers and other tasks. In the city of Cancún, the drill was led by the re-elected municipal president Mara Lezama, with the main objective of creating awareness of the risks to which the population is exposed in any building.

The purpose of this drill is for workers in government and private spaces to apply the knowledge acquired in the Internal Civil Protection Program and to know how to react in the event of an emergency, thus guaranteeing that their lives will be saved from disaster and fire.
