QUINTANA ROO WITHIN THE TOP 5 STATES IN JOB RECOVERY

After a very difficult year due to the crisis brought by the pandemic in 2020, many sectors were affected; stopping the contagions involved a dreaded work stoppage, some people left their jobs and are still looking for new ones, others saw the opportunity to reinvent themselves and embraced the changes. In Mexico, millions of families managed to maintain the hope that everything would get better with time without giving up their longed-for dreams.
Being in confinement and maintaining a balance in the finances of Quintana Roo has not been easy, however, the hard work of its people together with the purpose of Governor Carlos Joaquín, which consists of safeguarding the health of the population without aggravating the state’s economy, is now yielding positive results and generating a climate of calm in its 11 municipalities, although there is still much to be done.
The people of Quintana Roo can now boast that they are emerging from the crisis of 2020, even with the downturn in three key sectors: commerce, restaurants and lodging services, and miscellaneous services, they managed to remain among the most favored states in economic recovery and job generation in the first quarter of 2021, in which they were able to add 30 thousand 992 jobs with legal benefits.
Although the jewel of tourism in Mexico had to slow down its pace, according to IMSS data, Quintana Roo surpassed Mexico City, which added 27,514 jobs, and was placed below Jalisco, which obtained 35,240 jobs, as of May. Likewise, according to the portal “¿México cómo vamos?” the border state was positioned in fifth place in terms of job recovery.
The words of the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Catalina Portillo Navarro, are accurate, almost 30 percent of the jobs have been recovered, since 97,381 formal jobs were lost up to December in this destination which mainly owes its activities to the tourism sector.
