RIVIERA MAYA CONFIRMS 24 CRUISE SHIPS BETWEEN JUNE AND JULY
The sea of Cozumel is once again in motion after a period of calm following the arrival of the first cruise ships to the port, tourists are arriving and will continue to arrive week after week; after a year of pandemic, the rapid advances in science allow travelers to have confidence to vindicate their taste for adventure on the high seas, since they have already been vaccinated and the risk of contagion is reduced for all, it is time for the reactivation of activities for the seafarers.
The islanders will be receiving 24 cruise ships between June and July, and more than 50 thousand tourists will arrive aboard them, as confirmed by their Municipal President, Pedro Joaquín Delbouis; thousands of expectant eyes are eager to meet the soft white sand, to get lost for a while in it, or to let themselves be pampered by the service of the best restaurants in the Riviera Maya.
We learned of this excellent news thanks to a Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) meeting where the focus was a safe return to the sea.
There were more than 40 executives, nine presidents, cruise line directors and close to 200 FCCA attendees, who were able to establish a dialogue in the exclusive meeting held in Miami, Florida, where they held workshops and took advantage of every moment to establish contact. The mood after the confinement is at its peak, and it is worth having a good organization throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America and Mexico.
“Our commitment is to work together for tourism, to generate more visitors and more jobs for the community of Cozumel. We are facing the economic and tourism crisis that has marked the history of mankind and, with responsibility, we are moving forward in the recovery of tourism and the cruise industry,” said Pedro Joaquín Delbouis.
Before the pandemic, the island of swallows received about 1,200 cruise ships a year, almost half of the record number reached in 2019 in Mexico, 2,951 vessels, which managed to grow by 10.5 percent compared to 2018.
The joy invades the docks of Quintana Roo, which is already expecting at least 50 thousand travelers between crew and passengers in the coming months, who will arrive on the Royal Caribbean International, Carnival, and Celebrity Cruises shipping lines, as detailed by the Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development of Cozumel.
This reactivation brings with it an approximate economic return of five million dollars to the municipality, and with it the possibility of thousands of people returning to service jobs in the cruise industry; restaurants and other businesses are also getting ready to receive the passengers with the pertinent sanitary measures.
